The Tour Begins....

First stop: CMJ Music Festival.

Lesson #1 of the CMJ experience is that CMJ wants to give you a lot of free shit. There are like 10 promo CDs, some magazines and an energy drink in each of our CMJ bags. And earplugs.

We played at Banjo Jim's on Tuesday night, to a decently full house. Opening up the night was NYC based Woodpecker!, a band of bluegrass kids with a love of punk rock and three part harmonies. They covered a Jawbreaker tune. :)

Our set went well, even with a broken guitar string halfway through. Liam covered the awkward string changing time with one of his videogame-ragtime tunes. Some clever fan left a new guitar string in the tip jar. After the show we went to a nearby restaurant called Old Devil Moon and got some sweet grub. We considered going out for drinks, but were pretty beat so we just crawled into the van and fell asleep. Myrnah was having some mechanical problems before we left, so Malcolm Rollick saved our ass by letting us take her converted Ford van (her name is Pig). Here's where we slept:

However, the fire hydrant in the lower left hand corner presented a problem to the NYPD. A $115 parking ticket ended our temporary residency on Avenue C. Fortunately for us, Jessica's friend Ivy had the brilliant idea to move Pig over to Brooklyn near her apartment. Brooklyn didn't seem to mind us being there as much as Manhattan did. Over the next few days we shall devour all that CMJ has to offer. We're most excited about seeing The Bowerbirds, Fourth of July and Tim Barry all in one night club on Thursday. It is strange to start a tour with a 5 day vacation in New York, but that's how we're gonna do this one. All rock star like.

awesome blogness and tour start!! Except for the ticket. NY parking is tough. We ended up parking in front of my cousin's place on the days the street washer wasn't washing that side. But you still had to move early-style.
If you get a chance, and you like good vegan cake and junk food, be sure to check out Foodswings in Brooklyn. They even had faux fish & chips, 'milk'shakes, etc.
